Day Trip!!!

Tuesday is now designated as "our" golf day.  I am actually playing golf.   Last week we went to Hot Springs Village and this week we ventured to Heber Springs/Greer's Ferry Lake to Tannenbaum Golf Club. It is actually just this side of  Drasco.

I got bored with hitting golf balls at the range.  I need to play.  So far, so good!  I doing pretty good with my tee shots and my putting.  It's the "tween" (in between the tee and the green) shots that need work.

When I am having a playing lesson, we play at The First Tee of Central Arkansas.  Chuck is an Assistant Golf Professional there as well as offering private lessons...
I get a special family rate:)

We usually play nine holes unless we go to War Memorial Park in Little Rock.  It is a shorter course so we play 15 holes.  We don't keep score and when I really mess up on a hole, I just call it an "X".  I am having fewer and fewer "X's"....I have had one birdie, some pars, some bogies and some double bogies...and then, of course, some X's.  I am progressing.  Someday I'll even keep score.  Then, I may be ready to play with Chuck in a Scramble*, which is our ultimate goal...and what started my on this journey.

*Scramble: a tournament where you and your partner play from where the best ball lies.

The Beehive State No. 35

ATC to commemorate
No. 35 of 50 States*
Utah is Salt Lake City to me.

I have been there twice and that's the only city that I have visited for any length of time...one time in 1977 and another in 2000 for a National Space Grant Conference.

There  is no describing Salt Lake City.  You almost have to go there to believe it.

The 2000 Winter Olympics were held there.  Some of the events were held in Park City.  We visited some these sites during the Conference.  There was no snow so they used water at the ski jump area for practice sessions.

The main attractions for me were The Temple The Mormon Tabernacle Choir , The Mormon Tabernacle Choir in rehearsal and a small out of the way Garden, that can only be called an "Inspiration".

Do not miss The Sculpture Garden at the Temple Headquarters in honor of Ages of Women.  I walked through the Garden both times that I went.  It is a lovely place for just wandering and being quiet.

The first time I went we drove out to the Great Salt Flats.

Hope you can make it out...just at the edge "LYNN".
I spell my name Lynne...hmmm!

It was really an unusual experience for me.  As we drove up to the edge of the viewing area, I looked down in the salt and saw my name embedded there...it wasn't spelled as mine, but it was close enough!

Note: For "new to my blog" friends...on May 17, 2010, I visited Wisconsin.
I can now say that I have been in, to or through all 50 United States.

Fashion in the Time of Jane Austen

Fashion in the Time of Jane Austen

by Sarah-Jane Downing                   Four Stars

I found this book by accident when I was checking in books at the library (my part time job).  It caught my attention because I am passionate about the Regency Period in England...maybe being classified as an Anglophile.   I even "like" the British Monarchy on Facebook.

I love this little book...63 pages. It is full of illustrations and text that relates them to Jane Austen books and the Period, in general.  If you are an Anglophile, you might enjoy this book...maybe you have already found it...and I am a little behind?

For those of you that follow me for my book reviews I do apologize for the lack of posts.  I have to admit that actually I love to read the genre "Regency Romance".  I claim to love it for the history...that is true...but I also love the romance and the happy endings, but sometimes I am hesitant to post them.  Confession time is over. (read between the lines...)  I will get over it.  I keep thinking I'll get over it.

I got through my "Mystery Genre" phase.  I'll sneak one in every once in a while, but I am pretty much "over" it.

We watch some DVDs,
 Midsomer Murders
and Wallander.

I promise to post more book reviews.  I usually read an average of six "fast-read" books a month. (see above :)  At the same time I also read a Non-Fiction book.  I can only absorb actual facts in small doses.  The Non-Fiction that I am now reading is Mad Madge , The Extraordinary Life Of Margaret Cavendish, Duchess of Newcastle, The First Woman To Live By Her Pen.  I am about 2/3 the way through.  When I finish, I will be posting my review.  So far, I am really loving it.  Stay tuned...........

Red Letter Day for First Tee of Central Arkansas

George W. Bush, the 43rd President of the United States
First Tee of Central Arkansas, May 27, 2011
Celebrating TEN years!  ...and Chuck has been a part of it for nine of those years!  What an accomplishment!  I am so proud that he has been able to "do" his "passion"!   He is teaching kids and adults GOLF...that would be "the" passion.  In fact, he is teaching me, too.

Now, for the big, big news!  Ta-Da!  President George W. Bush was invited to honor the day. . . He accepted.

What a great day for the First Tee of Central Arkansas.

The Course and the clubhouse looked great.

A garden was planted in honor of the biggest local supporter, Warren Stephens.  First Tee was his father's vision and he has carried on the tradition.  It is now up to the community to keep it going.  When a former President of the United States shows up to honor the day, it "jump starts" the effort to involve the community in its support of the First Tee of Central Arkansas.
