Finally, A Room of My Own!

Chuck was lucky
...his room ...
at times called a
'man cave'...
was move-in ready.

My Room...
("The Etsy Room")
was a bedroom with carpet.
Carpet is not great for
crafting with glue and
acrylic paint. I had to wait for a laminate floor and some kind of shelving to be installed. I thought of building some new shelving, but what would I do with all of my cabinets, chests, and tables??? Decision: Keep them and go with the eclectic look.  It's my style after all!

This is the official unveiling---Ta Da!

I am loving it. I even took time from the never ending unpacking to work on a project for myself. I have been adding to my inventory on Etsy, but nothing just for me.  I have many projects in the queue.  Some of them are for me, us, gifts, and Etsy.  I promised Chuck that I would bring only one project at a time in the house from the garage or storage.*...unless I want to quilt in the Arkansas room or the living room:)

*Note: In Little Rock I had projects in both guest rooms, the dining room, the breakfast room, the office, and the garage!

Reading Zebra Paperbacks

Zebra Regency books are really fun and fast reads. Especially these three by Paula Tanner Girard.*
I have just finished the third one in just as many days.

First: The Sister Season

Lord Wakeford's Gold Watch

Second: Lord Wakeford's Gold Watch

Third: The Reluctant Groom

I found them as I was unpacking and thought they would do until I got some books I am waiting on to finish another series. I like Paula Tanner Girard. She tells a good story without all of the lust and angst.

To quote her "I love a fast-paced light-hearted comedy." I do, too.  She writes in the style of Barbara Metzger and I loved all of her books. I do recommend her books if you just want a nice book to curl up with for an afternoon.

*As I was looking for a link for Ms. Girard, I found her obituary.  For those who are her fans I thought I would link it to this post. I am sorry to say that we won't be treated to any new books from her...we'll have to make do with the ones she left us.

Maisie Dobbs (#s 4, 5, 6)

Messenger of Truth
No. 4 of the Series

This is the fourth "Maisie Dobbs" mystery.  Each "Maisie" book seems to get better than the last.  This one is no exception.  It is also the mid-point of the series (there have been eight books published to date), almost as if you were at the mid-point of an epic novel.  This seems to be the climax-the turning point of the story.  For Maisie it seems to be a new beginning in her life's journey.  I thought I might take a break from her stories, but now I must forge ahead to see how she fares on this journey.

An Incomplete Revenge
No. 5 in the Series

So far I have liked every one of the 'Maisie Dobbs' mysteries...this one is no exception.  Ms. Winspear gives you enough information where you think you have solved the mystery.  In the end you find you almost got it right, but didn't figure out all of the details...and you could have.  The continuing story of the lives of the main characters keeps my interest as much as the current mystery to be solved.  I do find though that I can't read the next book in the series right away.  I have to give myself a break with something different...like a good 'cozy' mystery or my old stand-by, Regency Romance, or even a good biography.

Among the Mad
No. 6 in the series
by Jacqueline Winspear
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Reading Maisie Dobbs is not a read to take lightly. Although, Ms. Winspear's stories follow a formula she does not let it distract the reader from her message. Maisie Dobbs is a psychologist and investigator in a period after WWI and before WWII. She and her assistant Billy plod through the case in question clue by clue. Through some tuition on the part of Maisie a conclusion is reached, but not always what the reader expects. Along the way you learn a lot of history as if you were there. There are two more books in the series, but I have to digest this one before I can move to the next book.
