Georgia - On My Mind! (Number 40)

In the 50's
I went to  Decatur, Georgia *
to visit my aunt, Mary Lou,
and my cousins, Susan and Leigh.

It was my first plane trip.
The day my plane departed I also had tickets to see Dragnet, the movie, and its star, Jack Webb, in person.

Built in 1925 now on
National Register
for Historic Places

Rain was pouring down.  My Mom and Dad picked me up
at the Strand Theater (after I got his autograph:)  It must have been scary for them to put me on the plane...their only child...in my teens...but still a child.  We took off in the rain.
The minute we got above the rain clouds the sun came out.  It was a wondrous sight.
I shall never forget it.

I had a great time in Decatur, a suburb of Atlanta.  We went to see Joel Chandler Harris' house and Br'er Rabbit's brier patch.  One day I walked by myself to downtown Decatur.  I bought a Revlon Fingernail Polish Kit for my souvenir.

The highlight of my trip was a bus ride to downtown Atlanta and lunch at Rich's Department Store.  I felt so grown up.

I keep going back...a family trip to Savannah and a business trip for a conference at Georgia Tech.  Chuck and I went in 2008 on our "Southeast Tour".  Our destination was Charleston, South Carolina.  We stopped to  see Mary Lou in Decatur,

Milledgeville, Capitol 1804 - 1868
went through
Milledgeville

and Athens, home of the University of Georgia.

What Fun!

Fond Memories will keep "Georgia On My Mind"!

*For "new to my blog" people...on May 17, 2010, I visited Wisconsin.
I can now say that I have been in, to, or through all 50 United States.
I am committed to make an Artist Trading Card "ATC" for each of
the 50 States. Hence, the label-50 States.

Roy Rogers...My Hero

Cover of book by Georgia Morris and Mark Pollard
When I was little, I spent many a Saturday at the neighborhood movie.   Me, my friends and I would go to see the movie of the week and the serial that came before it.

Cover of DVD I bought along
with one (below) of Roy and the gang!

My favorite serial was
the Perils of Nyoka.  I had always remembered her as Nyoka of the Jungle.

Then came the main attraction...
Gene Autry
The Three Musketeers
Lash LaRue
Hopalong Cassidy

I bought a set of DVDs
for good memories...
Part of US Postal Service
tribute to Cowboys
But none could equal my hero...Roy
...and

Trigger...Dale...Gabby.

The best part was the action after the movie.  We would walk home and play cowboys/cowgirls and Indians the rest of the day.  I was Nyoka must of the time.  :)
I don't remember stopping for lunch.  If we did, we were right back outside chasing the bad guys...riding and shooting until the next Saturday when we started all over again.

IT'S OFFICIAL - AUTUMN is my favorite season!

Not only is "Autumn" one of my favorite words, it is also my favorite season as of today!

For me it is a time for new beginnings...change, which energizes me.  Nothing got my juices flowing when I was a child than the first day of school.  I got a new dress and a new pair of shoes.  It couldn't get any better.

We started school on the day after Labor Day.  I saw friends whom I hadn't seen over the Summer.  I went to a new classroom and a new teacher with new things to learn.

There is a certain smell in the air.  I can open my doors and windows without having to deal with Spring* pollen...or the Winter cold.  With the windows open I can smell the air and hear the sounds in my neighborhood.  Right now I hear a leaf blowers and cars turning into their driveway coming home from work.

The trees change colors...at least most years, but not this year.  We had a dry  Summer.  Now the leaves are turning brown and immediately falling to the ground.

My husband rakes the leaves...yea, Chuck!
For those sports fans-the football season and the World Series...and for the couch potatoes: New TV shows/series replace all of the Summer reruns.

Autumn inspires my art!

RED, a must see movie!

Karl Urban     Sigh!
RED will be a "top of the chart" movie.  It has action, a wonderful cast*, action, good story line ...action...and a villain that you would like to take home with you.

Did I say, "ACTION"

Richard Dreyfuss, John Malkovich,
Morgan Freeman and Bruce Willis

A news bite said she was intimidated by
the celebrity and talent of her co-stars.
No way! It didn't show in her performance.

What more could you want from: Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, and Mary-Louise Parker?

I do not want to give you a hint...not even a little, teeny one.  Anything I say may be a "spoiler".  Well, maybe just one.  RED stands for "Retired Extremely Dangerous".  Hopefully, the pictures will not give anything away.  You will just have to go see it and find out for yourself.

This was not a movie made to capitalize star power.  It did that and more!  It has my thumbs up...a movie worthy of your time and attention.

Ernest Borgnine and
"the villian"...sigh!
Richard Dreyfuss
*Also, Cameos from Richard Dreyfuss and Ernest Borgnine.

It was all about Golf in No. 41 Alabama

We have been in and out of Alabama several times.  When we head for the beaches of the panhandle of Florida we go through Mobile and "FloraBama" at the border..  The first year we were married we came back through Bellingrath Gardens in the southwest corner of the State.

We made one quick trip to Birmingham to analyze Chuck's swing for a new set of golf clubs.  I want to go back and look for some of the sites used in the Anne George "Sister" mystery series. (If you haven't read them, you have missed a good time.)

Our favorite trip to Alabama was with our Sister and Brother-in-Law to hit the highlights of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.  What fun!

"Shell" We Talk Collecting (again:D)

 Yes, I am back...

"confessing to collecting".

Shells in the yard...

I love shells.  I love shells in all forms.

I even like taking a picture of me taking a picture of shells.

I love to craft with shells.  What do you think?

Shells on display...just because

Scorpio and Libra on the beach
They are as close as I am going to be to the beach.  I love being near the water.  I am not really a "water sports" person, but I am a Scorpio.  FYI or maybe TMI--Scorpio is an astrological "water" sign.  Even the rain energizes me.  My husband is a Libra, a "sun" sign...they say opposites attract.  That seems to be true!

Shells, shells and more shells...someone stop me!
