Memorial Day----

Remembering our heroes!

We got out early as it was on the sunny side of the house.  It was already hot at 8:00am.It is going to be in the 90's today.

We trimmed the nandinas severely, but you can never trim them too much, they always come back full force.

We didn't touch the hydrangeas as they are in full bloom.

I brought a few in the house, but left the rest for the neighbors to enjoy!

What do you think?

Stone of Destiny, the movie

Playing catch-up -- I got behind when I went to California last month....

While we were there we saw a really good movie the night before we were to come home.  After packing we camped out in front of the TV.  My daughter has Netflix and we found it there...Stone of Destiny*.  It is an "Indie" film and is based on a true story.    It is the story of Ian Hamilton, a dedicated nationalist who reignited Scottish national pride in the 1950's with his daring raid in the heart of England to bring the Stone of Scone back to Scotland.

I think you will like it!

*Robert Carlyle has a small part in the film.  I loved him as Hamish Macbeth on the BBC series of the same name.

These Boots Were Made For Walking...

I just watched the most delightful movie---Kinky Boots---based on a true story.   A drag queen comes to the rescue of a man who, after inheriting his father's shoe factory, needs to diversify his product if he wants to keep the business afloat.

It was recommended to me by my co-worker at the library.  In fact, the library has classified as a "Staff Pick".
Good choice...it was a "feel good" movie.  I love "feel good" movies...so many of the recent world events don't feel good at all.  I recommend it to you...hope you'll feel good after watching it.

April in San Francisco...sounds like a song!

Vacations are great; coming home is even better! We just got back from a trip to visit our daughter and her husband in San Francisco.  We try to make the trip every other year.

Before the S.F. visit we made a short jaunt South to see Hearst Castle at San Simeon.

We stopped at a
great winery on the way:
Took a great "Cab" back to S.F.  It was great with pizza one night...

Then, back North where Sherri  and Scott again out did themselves showing us a great time.  The guys played golf at Silverado Golf Club and we shopped in St. Helena.  I over did it...lunch, two wine tastings and coffee at Peet's...I was a real drag when we went to Sausalito to eat at a delightful small, out of the way Italian restaurant.

Honor of Legion, Fine Arts Museum
The next day I was revived and we went into the city to the of Legion of Honor Fine Art Museum to see the "Pulp Fashion" exhibit....awesome!
Pulp Fashion Exhibit, all gown made from paper!

The Three Shades
The Kiss
As an added bonus...when we walked in the front door there was a room full of Rodin sculptures.  In fact, "The Thinker" was in the front Courtyard.

My next wish was fulfilled when we lunched in a popular Chinese restaurant in Chinatown.  We shopped 'til we dropped...

Collage w/squished pennies from
Hearst Castle and Chinatown
...got some great bargains
 and even a "squished penny"

Down day..thank God!

Easter Sunday with Maggie and Nial...A brunch, egg hunt and ..
playtime for Nial?  Chuck?

Chuck!
Nial Vs.

When Sherri left for a meeting in NY, Scott took over with the "tourist" duty...which involved picking up some great burgers, fries and onion rings.  We watched a movie, "Stone of Destiny" on Netflix before bedtime...an early up at 3:00am to catch our flight from fantasy to reality and our own bed!
AHHHHHHH! Home Sweet Home!
